The West-Bee Story

On a few acres in Westbury you'll find Dave and Wendy, owners of West-Bee Honey.

THE STORY begins about 17 years ago when David called into a retired beekeepers house looking for some old gear to catch a bee swarm in. After a few weeks of chatting he ending up buying a few hives and some beekeeping gear and West-Bee Honey was born.

The retired Beekeeper then became David’s mentor till he passed away approx. 11 years later “RIP Rusty”.

In 9 years of working every Sunday with Russ, we turned one hive into two, two hives into a few and a few hives into 200! Every hive was used for pollination for seed growers & then moved to honey cropping sites in the North/North West of Tasmania.

West-Bee Honey is still continuing on with the expanding process every year to make what we believe is some of Tasmania’s finest honey.

WENDY Gibson

Marketing & Sales co-ordinator, you’ll most likely find Wendy manning the stall at the local Launceston Farmers Market on Saturday mornings 8.30am - 12.30pm, also at Farm Gate Market, Bathurst St, Hobart every third Sunday of the month along with David. Wendy & David met in 2009 and Wendy quickly saw an opportunity to expand on Daves love of apiarism. We can thank Wendy for the delicious glass honey pot’s and super cute gift packs! Over a decade later and Wendy is basically the brains behind the sales operation.

DAVID Gibson

An avid apiarist, Dave is always up for a good yarn. If you ever have the pleasure of picking up honey from their home, you’ll probably see him working through the logistics of hive movements for pollination work & honey collection from the West Coast of Tasmania, otherwise he’ll be whacking about the paddock on his tractor on the property he shares with Wendy at Westbury. Dave loves spending time fishing, and he and Wendy both have a love for dancing and spending time with the family.
